RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to assess the association between Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII) score and mortality among adults with hyperuricemia. METHODS: We collected data from the 2001-2018 cohorts of the National Health and Nutritional Examination Surveys (NHANES). Mortality information was obtained based on death certificate records from the National Death Index (NDI) through 31 December 2019. The associations between DII score and all-cause, cardiovascular disease (CVD) and cancer mortality were investigated by using Cox proportional hazards regression models. RESULTS: We enrolled 7786 participants with hyperuricemia in this study. The DII score ranged from -4.42 to 4.61. Higher DII score was significantly associated with higher levels of BMI, glycohemoglobin, glucose, LDL-cholesterol and CRP (all P <0.05). During 67851 person-years of follow-up, 1456 participants were identified death including 532 CVD deaths and 246 cancer deaths. After adjusted for potential variables, significant higher risk of all-cause (HR:1.18, 95% CI: 1.03, 1.36, P =0.01) and CVD (HR:1.30, 95% CI: 1.03, 1.63, P =0.02) mortality was observed for individuals with higher DII score. Considering the DII score as a continuous variable, the risk of all-cause and CVD mortality increases 5% (HR:1.05, 95% CI: 1.01, 1.08) and 8% (HR:1.08, 95% CI: 1.02, 1.15) with each one-unit increment in DII, respectively. Subgroup analysis indicated that the association between DII and all-cause mortality among hyperuricemia participants was more significant in male. CONCLUSION: DII score is found positively associated with all-cause and CVD mortality of adults with hyperuricemia. Controlling the intake of pro-inflammatory food might be potential strategy to reduce mortality.

RESUMO

Lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) is one of the subtypes of lung cancer (LC) that contributes to approximately 25%-30% of its prevalence. Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) are key cellular components of the TME, and the large number of CAFs in tumour tissues creates a favourable environment for tumour development. However, the function of CAFs in the LUSC is complex and uncertain. First, we processed the scRNA-seq data and classified distinct types of CAFs. We also identified prognostic CAFRGs using univariate Cox analysis and conducted survival analysis. Additionally, we assessed immune cell infiltration in CAF clusters using ssGSEA. We developed a model with a significant prognostic correlation and verified the prognostic model. Furthermore, we explored the immune landscape of LUSC and further investigated the correlation between malignant features and LUSC. We identified CAFs and classified them into three categories: iCAFs, mCAFs and apCAFs. The survival analysis showed a significant correlation between apCAFs and iCAFs and LUSC patient prognosis. Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that patients in CAF cluster C showed a better survival probability compared to clusters A and B. In addition, we identified nine significant prognostic CAFRGs (CLDN1, TMX4, ALPL, PTX3, BHLHE40, TNFRSF12A, VKORC1, CST3 and ADD3) and subsequently employed multivariate Cox analysis to develop a signature and validate the model. Lastly, the correlation between CAFRG and malignant features indicates the potential role of CAFRG in promoting tumour angiogenesis, EMT and cell cycle alterations. We constructed a CAF prognostic signature for identifying potential prognostic CAFRGs and predicting the prognosis and immunotherapeutic response for LUSC. Our study may provide a more accurate prognostic assessment and immunotherapy targeting strategies for LUSC.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) affects physical and mental health of patients. This study aimed to investigate the psychological distress, level of hope, and the role of families of patients with COVID-19 in the Fangcang shelter hospital (FSH) and explore potential influencing factors. METHODOLOGY: We conducted an online observational cross-sectional study on 397 patients with mild to moderate COVID-19 from two FSH in Shanghai, China from 12 April to 16 May 2022. The questionnaire included demographic information, distress thermometer (DT), family adaptation, partnership, growth, affection, resolve (APGAR) index, and the Herth hope index (HHI). RESULTS: The patients reported symptoms of severe psychological distress (n = 109, 27.46%) and low levels of family care (n = 152, 38.29%). More than half of the patients (n = 244, 61.46%) exhibited high levels of hope, and around one-third of the patients (n = 151, 38.04%) reported moderate levels of hope. The study noted a significant negative correlation between the scores for psychological distress and APGAR and a significant positive correlation between the scores for APGAR and HHI (p < 0.05). The FSH living experience, diet, and symptoms of COVID-19 were closely associated with psychological distress among patients (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Patients with COVID-19 living in the FSH reported high levels of symptoms of psychological distress and low levels of family care, but relatively high levels of hope. Health care workers should improve the living and eating conditions in the FSH, strengthen family support, and alleviate the COVID-19 related symptoms of patients.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To explore associations among psychological resilience, self-esteem, social support, and non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) behaviors in adolescents receiving inpatient psychiatric care. METHOD: In this cross-sectional study, 505 Chinese adolescents (aged 10 to 19 years) receiving inpatient psychiatric care completed a general characteristics questionnaire, the Psychological Resilience Scale (PRS), Self-Esteem Scale (SES), and Child and Adolescent Social Support Scale (CASSS). Statistical tests were used to compare NSSI incidence, scale scores, and factors influencing NSSI. RESULTS: The incidence rate of NSSI was 77.82% (n = 393). Total and dimension scores on the PRS, SES, and CASSS in the NSSI group were significantly lower than those in the non-NSSI group (p < 0.01). Binary logistic multifactorial regression analysis showed that participants who were female and aged 10 to 14 years were more prone to NSSI behavior (p < 0.05). Having close friends, high parental expectations, and moderate to high self-esteem were protective factors for NSSI behavior (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Nursing personnel should prioritize enhancing psychological resilience, self-esteem, and social support in adolescents receiving inpatient psychiatric care to mitigate the risk of NSSI and ensure the safety of hospitalized individuals. RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The current surgical procedure of interbody fusion in the lumbar spine has several limitations including low efficiency, potential endplate damage, overdose radiation exposure, and failure of fusion. METHODS: Through the endoscopic operating channel, we efficiently removed the superior and inferior articular processes and decompressed the ligamentum flavum. Another operating channel was established under endoscopic monitoring to excise the annulus fibrosus, remove the cartilaginous endplate using open instruments, perform interbody bone grafting, and place a non-expandable polyetheretherketone open surgical fusion cage. CONCLUSION: Lumbar interbody fusion was performed successfully using a far-lateral transforaminal approach combined with dual operation channels of percutaneous endoscopic-assisted technique.

RESUMO

As emerging environmental pollutants, micro(nano)plastics (MPs) like polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and low-density polyethylene (LDPE) have adverse effects on terrestrial biota and ecosystem function. However, the performance and roles of soil arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi in MPs-contaminated vegetable fields are poorly understood. Thus, a 120-day pot experiment was conducted to test the impacts of two input levels of either PET (~13 µm) or LDPE (~500 nm) on AM fungal diversity and pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) growth in two farmland soils collected from Nanjing (NJ) and Chongqing (CQ), respectively. In the vast majority of cases, 1 % rather than 0.1 % of both MPs greatly decreased the observed richness, Shannon and Simpson's indices, and Pielou's evenness of AM fungi, and decreased mycorrhizal colonization, root and shoot biomasses, fruit yield, and leaf superoxide dismutase, peroxidase, and catalase activities of pepper, while increased leaf malondialdehyde content. From day 40 to 120, the inhibition of either diversity or vitality of AM fungi by 1 % and 0.1 % of MPs gradually increased and weakened, respectively. Compared with PET, LDPE with substantially smaller particle size was more toxic to mycorrhization at day 40, but no longer at day 120. Almost all plant parameters significantly correlated to mycorrhizal colonization, which significantly correlated to both Shannon and Simpson's indices of AM fungi, and soil pH, available P and K concentrations, and alkaline phosphatase activity. All diversity indices of AM fungi clearly negatively correlated to soil pH from 4.4 to 5.6 for the NJ soil and from 5.3 to 6.5 for the CQ soil, and also positively to mineral N and negatively to available P concentrations for the NJ and CQ soils, respectively. Thus, the study emphasized that high input of MPs significantly inhibited soil AM fungal diversity and vitality and thereby vegetable growth via changing soil pH and major nutrient availability.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: To design percutaneous endoscopic surgery via a posterolateral approach for the treatment of central cervical disc herniation. METHODS: From October 2019 to October 2020, 12 consecutive patients with central cervical disc herniation underwent percutaneous endoscopic posterior lateral cervical surgery. The imaging examination (dynamic X-ray, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging of the cervical spine) was conducted after the operation. Visual analog scale score and the modified Japanese Orthopaedic Association score was performed before and after the operation. RESULTS: Twelve patients (6 men and 6 women; mean age 52.08 ± 9.3 years) were included, and the average operation time was 105.00 ± 10.55 minutes. Postoperative computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging results showed that the treatment segment of all patients was prominent, the cervical intervertebral disc was completely removed, the cervical spinal cord was fully decompressed, and there were no cases of infection, cerebrospinal fluid leakage or neurological complications. The average follow-up time after the operation was 22.83 ± 3.13 months. One year after the operation, there was no cervical instability in the X-ray examination of cervical flexion and extension position. Preoperative visual analog scale score and the modified Japanese Orthopaedic Association score were significantly improved at the last follow-up. CONCLUSION: Percutaneous endoscopic posterior lateral cervical discectomy provides a new surgical method for the endoscopic treatment of central cervical disc herniation. This treatment has a better surgical field and easier operation, which can remove the protruding cervical disc under the endoscope and make sure that the cervical spinal cord is fully decompressed. The clinical effect is satisfactory. A small amount of pedicle resection will not cause cervical instability.

RESUMO

Lung inflammation is an essential inducer of various diseases and is closely related to pulmonary-endothelium dysfunction. Herein, we propose a pulmonary endothelium-targeted codelivery system of anti-inflammatory indomethacin (IND) and antioxidant superoxide dismutase (SOD) by assembling the biopharmaceutical SOD onto the "vector" of rod-like pure IND crystals, followed by coating with anti-ICAM-1 antibody (Ab) for targeting endothelial cells. The codelivery system has a 237 nm diameter in length and extremely high drug loading of 39% IND and 2.3% SOD. Pharmacokinetics and biodistribution studies demonstrate the extended blood circulation and the strong pulmonary accumulation of the system after intravenous injection in the lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammatory murine model. Particularly, the system allows a robust capacity to target pulmonary endothelium mostly due to the rod-shape and Ab coating effect. In vitro, the preparation shows the synergistic anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects in LPS-activated endothelial cells. In vivo, the preparation exhibits superior pharmacodynamic efficacy revealed by significantly downregulating the inflammatory/oxidative stress markers, such as TNF-α, IL-6, COX-2, and reactive oxygen species (ROS), in the lungs. In conclusion, the codelivery system based on rod-like pure crystals could well target the pulmonary endothelium and effectively alleviate lung inflammation. The study offers a promising approach to combat pulmonary endothelium-associated diseases.

RESUMO

Cobalt sulfides, especially Co9S8, have been widely studied as a potential earth-abundant electrocatalyst for many electrochemical reactions, such as oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and methanol oxidation reaction (MOR). However, the electrocatalytic performance of Co9S8 is not satisfactory because of its comparatively sluggish charge transport and reaction kinetics. Defect engineering and constructing hollow nanostructures are effective methods to improve their electrocatalytic performance, therefore, exploring an efficient route to obtain Co9S8 catalysts, simultaneously possessing sulfur vacancies and hollow nanostructure, is necessary. In this study, Co9S8-x core-shell hollow spheres with sulfur vacancies were prepared via a two-step solvothermal strategy, followed by thermal treatment under an H2/Ar atmosphere. The content of sulfur vacancies can be regulated by varying the temperature during the thermal treatment. The obtained Co9S8-x core-shell hollow spheres exhibited interesting sulfur vacancy defect-dependent activity, one of which showed outstanding electrocatalysis performance for OER with an overpotential (η) of 294 m V (at 10 mA cm-2) and MOR catalysis efficiency (164.9 mA cm-2 at 1.8 V vs. RHE) in an alkaline medium. This study provides a promising and feasible pathway for developing efficient trifunctional electrocatalysts for renewable energy technologies.

RESUMO

It has been previously reported that pre-magnetization could enhance the efficacy of zero-valent iron (ZVI) in removing contaminants. However, little is known about the effects and persistence of different magnetization methods on pre-magnetized ZVI (Pre-ZVI) when used in advanced oxidation processes (AOPs). Gaining a comprehensive understanding of the durability of various pre-magnetization methods in enhancing the removal efficiency of different pollutants will significantly impact the widespread utilization of Pre-ZVI in practical engineering. Herein, we investigated the efficiency of dry and wet Pre-ZVI-activated peroxymonosulfate (PMS) in eliminating oxytetracycline (OTC) and evaluated the durability of Pre-ZVI. Additionally, we examined several factors that influence the degradation process's efficiency. Our results found that the reaction constant k values corresponding to the dry Pre-ZVI/PMS system at the pH values of 3, 7, and 9 varied from approximately 0.0384, 0.0331, and 0.0349 (day 1) to roughly 0.0297, 0.0278, and 0.0314 (day 30), respectively. Meanwhile, the wet Pre-ZVI/PMS system exhibited k values ranging from approximately 0.0392, 0.0349, and 0.0374 (day 1) to roughly 0.0380, 0.0291, and 0.0322 (day 30), respectively. Moreover, we proposed four OTC degradation pathways using LC-MS/MS and density functional theory calculations. The toxicity of the degradation products was assessed using the ecological structure activity relationship and the toxicity estimation software tool. Overall, this study provides insights into the application of Pre-ZVI/PMS that can be selectively used to eliminate tetracycline antibiotics from water.

RESUMO

The use of checkpoint-blockade antibodies is still restricted in several malignancies due to the modest efficacy, despite considerable success in anti-tumor immunotherapy. The poor response of cancer cells to immune destruction is an essential contributor to the failure of checkpoint therapy. We hypothesized that combining checkpoint therapy with natural-product chemosensitizer could enhance immune response. Herein, a targeted diterpenoid derivative was integrated with the checkpoint blockade (anti-CTLA-4) to improve immunotherapy using thermosensitive liposomes as carriers. In vivo, the liposomes enabled the co-delivery of the two drug payloads into the tumor. Consequently, the regulatory T cell proliferation was restrained, the cytotoxic T cell infiltration was enhanced, and the profound immunotherapeutic effect was achieved. In addition, the immunotherapeutic effect of another clinically used checkpoint antibody, anti-PD-1, also benefited from the diterpenoid derivative. Of note, our mechanism study revealed that the targeted diterpenoid derivative increased the sensitivity of cancer cells to immune attack via THBS1 downregulation and the resultant destruction of THBS1-CD47 interaction. Collectively, co-delivering THBS1 inhibitor and checkpoint blockade is promising to boost cancer immunotherapy. We first time discovered that THBS1 suppression could strengthen checkpoint therapy.

RESUMO

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are a group of flame retardants used in plastics, textiles, polyurethane foam, and other materials. They contain two halogenated aromatic rings bonded by an ester bond and are classified according to the number and position of bromine atoms. Due to their widespread use, PBDEs have been detected in soil, air, water, dust, and animal tissues. Besides, PBDEs have been found in various tissues, including liver, kidney, adipose, brain, breast milk and plasma. The continued accumulation of PBDEs has raised concerns about their potential toxicity, including hepatotoxicity, kidney toxicity, gut toxicity, thyroid toxicity, embryotoxicity, reproductive toxicity, neurotoxicity, and immunotoxicity. Previous studies have suggested that there may be various mechanisms contributing to PBDEs toxicity. The present study aimed to outline PBDEs' toxic effects and mechanisms on different organ systems. Given PBDEs' bioaccumulation and adverse impacts on human health and other living organisms, we summarize PBDEs' effects and potential toxicity mechanisms and tend to broaden the horizons to facilitate the design of new prevention strategies for PBDEs-induced toxicity.

RESUMO

Introduction: Neuroinflammation is one of the major pathogeneses in Alzheimer's disease (AD) and mainly involves abnormal inflammatory activation of microglia by multiple pathological stimuli. The treatment of AD remains a major challenge due to the multifactorial characterization of AD and the inefficient ability of therapeutic drugs to permeate through the blood‒brain barrier (BBB). Accordingly, drug combination treatment and drug carrier delivery have become important therapeutic tools for the treatment of multifactorial diseases, especially AD. Methods: Inflammatory cytokine levels in microglia, including NO, TNF-α, IL-1ß, IL-4, and IL-10, were detected. The Morris water maze and object location task were used to investigate the learning and memory functions of APP/PS1 mice in different treatment groups. The number of neurons and plasticity of synapses were evaluated by immunofluorescence double labelling. Additionally, the ratio of ß-amyloid plaques and the number of activated microglia were evaluated by immunofluorescence staining. The concentrations of ß-amyloid plaques and inflammatory factors in the hippocampus were determined by ELISA. Microglia-derived exosomes (Exos) were extracted and purified by size exclusion chromatography. The distribution of exosomes and drugs was investigated in vitro and in vivo. Results: Compared to single drug interventions, the combination of Ber and Pal (Ber/Pal) modulated microglial inflammatory cytokine levels. Ber/Pal promoted the recovery of learning and memory impairment in APP/PS1 mice. Immunofluorescence staining indicated that Ber/Pal restored neurons, inhibited Aß plaque formation and microglial activation, and regulated the secretion of inflammatory factors. Exos promoted the accumulation of drugs in cells and tissues and improved the targeting of drugs across the BBB. Conclusion: Ber/Pal could offer a synergistic and more comprehensive therapeutic effect in AD. Additionally, the microglia-derived Exos-Ber/Pal delivery system promoted the targeting and permeation of drugs into the brain, suggesting a creative strategy for targeting AD therapy by regulating neuroinflammation in microglial cells.

RESUMO

Background: Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) is a major public health concern among adolescents. Further research is needed into contributors to this behavior, in particular among adolescents with psychiatric disorders. The aim of the present study was to explore the impact of life events and emotional stress on NSSI among hospitalized psychiatric adolescents. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 505 Chinese psychiatric adolescent inpatients 10-19 years old completed questionnaires about sociodemographic characteristics and NSSI as well as the Adolescent Self-Rating Life Events Checklist (ASLEC), the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory Form Y, and the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale. Chi-square test was used to compare the incidence of NSSI in psychiatric adolescent patients with different sociodemographic. T-test was used to compare the total scores and dimension scores of the ASLEC, STAI-Y, and CES-D between the NSSI group and the non-NSSI group. A binary logistic regression model was built to explore the relationships among sociodemographic characteristics, questionnaire scores and NSSI. Results: Most psychiatric adolescent inpatients (393, 77.8%) reported NSSI behavior. The higher risk for NSSI was observed among female (odds ratio [OR] 2.665, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.575-4.510), younger adolescents (10-14 years; OR 2.021, 95% CI 1.258-3.245), with a suicide history (OR 2.479, 95% CI 1.549-3.967), or with depression symptom (OR 3.217, 95% CI 1.572-6.582) and those with higher scores of ASLEC (OR 1.019, 95% CI 1.010-1.029). Conclusion: Our study in China is one of the first to apply to adolescent inpatients the diagnostic criteria of NSSI in the latest edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. Our analysis suggests that NSSI prevalence is disturbingly high among adolescents with mental illness in China. A better understanding of contributing factors, especially negative life events and negative emotions, may guide interventions that can reduce its prevalence.

RESUMO

AIM: The Chinese anti-rheumatic herbal remedy Tripterygium wilfordii Hook F (TWHF) has been widely shown to be effective in treating lupus nephritis (LN), but the therapeutic targets and mechanisms of action are still unclear. In this study, we aimed to combine mRNA expression profile analysis and network pharmacology analysis to screen the pathogenic genes and pathways involved in LN and to explore the potential targets of TWHF in the treatment of LN. METHODS: The mRNA expression profiles of LN patients were used to screen differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and to predict associated pathogenic pathways and networks via the Ingenuity Pathway Analysis database. Through molecular docking, we predicted the mechanism by which TWHF interacts with candidate targets. RESULTS: A total of 351 DEGs were screened from the glomeruli of LN patients and were mainly concentrated in the role of pattern recognition receptors in the recognition of bacteria and viruses and interferon signaling pathways. A total of 130 DEGs were screened from the tubulointerstitium of LN patients, which were concentrated in the interferon signaling pathway. TWHF might be effective in treating LN by hydrogen bonding to regulate the functions of 24 DEGs (including HMOX1, ALB, and CASP1), which are mainly concentrated in the B-cell signaling pathway. CONCLUSION: The mRNA expression profile of renal tissue from LN patients revealed a large number of DEGs. TWHF has been shown to interact with the DEGs (including HMOX1, ALB and CASP1) through hydrogen bonding to treat LN.

RESUMO

Sepsis-associated acute kidney injury (S-AKI) is a frequent complication in patients who are critically ill, which is often initiated by glomerular endothelial cell dysfunction. Although transient receptor vanilloid subtype 4 (TRPV4) ion channels are known to be permeable to Ca2+ and are widely expressed in the kidneys, the role of TRPV4 on glomerular endothelial inflammation in sepsis remains elusive. In the present study, we found that TRPV4 expression in mouse glomerular endothelial cells (MGECs) increased after lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulation or cecal ligation and puncture challenge, which increased intracellular Ca2+ in MGECs. Furthermore, the inhibition or knockdown of TRPV4 suppressed LPS-induced phosphorylation and translocation of inflammatory transcription factors NF-κB and IRF-3 in MGECs. Clamping intracellular Ca2+ mimicked LPS-induced responses observed in the absence of TRPV4. In vivo experiments showed that the pharmacologic blockade or knockdown of TRPV4 reduced glomerular endothelial inflammatory responses, increased survival rate, and improved renal function in cecal ligation and puncture-induced sepsis without altering renal cortical blood perfusion. Taken together, our results suggest that TRPV4 promotes glomerular endothelial inflammation in S-AKI and that its inhibition or knockdown alleviates glomerular endothelial inflammation by reducing Ca2+ overload and NF-κB/IRF-3 activation. These findings provide insights that may aid in the development of novel pharmacologic strategies for the treatment of S-AKI.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to translate the English version of the Perceived Competence Scale for Disaster Mental Health Workforce (PCS-DMHW) into Chinese, and to test its reliability and validity in Chinese mental health workers. METHODS: With the consent of Professor Choi, Keimyung University, Korea, and the authorization of the scale, the English version of PCS-DMHW was translated, retranslated and culturally debugged to form the Chinese version of PCS-DMHW. The general information questionnaire and the Chinese version of PCS-DMHW scale were used to investigate 706 mental health workforce from 9 tertiary hospitals in Sichuan province in China from March 24, 2020 to April 14, 2020. The Cronbach's α coefficient was used to evaluate the internal consistency reliability of the scale, and the test-retest correlation coefficient r was used to evaluate the test-retest reliability of the scale. The content validity indexes (CVI) and exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was used separately for evaluating the content validity and structure validity of the scale. RESULTS: The Cronbach's α coefficient of the Chinese version of PCS-DMHW total scale, individual competences and organizational competences subscale was 0.978, 0.956, and 0.964, respectively. The test-retest reliability of the total scale, individual competences and organizational competences subscale was 0.949, 0.932 and 0.927, respectively. The item-level CVI of all scale were ranged from 0.833-1.000, the scale-level CVI (S-CVI)/universal agreement of the total scale, individual competences and organizational competences subscale was 0.833, 0.875, and 0.857, respectively, and the S-CVI/average was 0.972, 0.979, and 0.976, respectively. EFA showed that two principal components were extracted from the subscale of individual competences and organizational competences. CONCLUSION: The Chinese version of PCS-DMHW has good reliability and validity, and can be widely used in China.

RESUMO

The prognosis of cardiac arrest (CA) is dismal despite the ongoing progress in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). ginsenoside Rb1 (Gn-Rb1) has been verified to be cardioprotective in cardiac remodeling and cardiac ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury, but its role is less known in CA. After 15 min of potassium chloride-induced CA, male C57BL/6 mice were resuscitated. Gn-Rb1 was blindly randomized to mice after 20 s of CPR. We assessed the cardiac systolic function before CA and 3 h after CPR. Mortality rates, neurological outcome, mitochondrial homeostasis, and the levels of oxidative stress were evaluated. We found that Gn-Rb1 improved the long-term survival during the post-resuscitation period but did not affect the ROSC rate. Further mechanistic investigations revealed that Gn-Rb1 ameliorated CA/CPR-induced mitochondrial destabilization and oxidative stress, partially via the activation of Keap1/Nrf2 axis. Gn-Rb1 improved the neurological outcome after resuscitation partially by balancing the oxidative stress and suppressing apoptosis. In sum, Gn-Rb1 protects against post-CA myocardial stunning and cerebral outcomes via the induction of the Nrf2 signaling pathway, which may offer a new insight into therapeutic strategies for CA.

RESUMO

Soundscape is an important part and one of the main factors of the underground space environment. Field surveys were conducted to evaluate the soundscape of underground commercial spaces and to compare it with the soundscape of the above-ground commercial spaces between two cities (Lu'an City and Hefei City) in China, consequently presenting the construction strategy of the soundscape of underground commercial spaces in urban areas. The results showed that the sound in the shopping center, which people found comfortable, was at the lower to intermediate level. The main sounds that people perceived as "general" sounds were environmental sounds such as music, the humming of the air conditioning, people talking, walking, and the hawking of the stores. Nevertheless, "very comfortable" sounds were background music and the sound of live performances, which were indicated in the majority of people's opinions on evaluating a comfortable feeling, thus reflecting the impact of the sound of mall music on people's cognitive psychology. Therefore, it is necessary to control the volume of environmental noise at a certain level so that people's health is not adversely affected. It also helps shoppers to feel more comfortable psychologically and physiologically.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: We aimed to examine the relationship between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D and all-cause, cause-specific mortality of patients with RA. METHODS: This cohort study included 1466 patients with RA from The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2001-14. Mortality status was obtained according to death certificate records from the National Death Index. Cox proportional risk models were used to estimate hazard ratios (HR) and 95% CI for mortality. A generalized additive model, smooth curve fitting and 2-piecewise Cox proportional hazards models were established to address the nonlinearity between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D and mortality. RESULTS: A total of 1466 patients [mean (s.d.) 59.89 (14.14) years old; 58.94% female] were enrolled. The weighted mean level of 25-hydroxyvitamin D was 59.26 (24.99) nmol/l and 38.95% were found with deficient (or severe deficient) vitamin D (<50.00 nmol/l). During 10453 person-years of follow-up, 268 patients were documented for all-cause death, including 52 cardiovascular disease (CVD)deaths and 48 cancer deaths. Compared with patients with serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D <25.00 nmol/l, patients with higher serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D were more likely to have lower rate of all-cause mortality. Nonlinear and L-shaped association between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D and all-cause mortality was found, and decreased serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D was significantly associated with increased risk of all-cause mortality in patients with serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D <37.30 nmol/l [HR 0.95 (0.92, 0.98); P < 0.01]. CONCLUSION: An L-shaped association between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D and all-cause mortality was found among patients with RA, indicating that serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D should be improved to a certain level for the prevention of premature death.
